The farmhouse was built by James F. King in 1894, after his log cabin was lost to a fire. Mr. King and his wife Adeline Varrier King eventually owned 445 acres of surrounding land, long before the Town of Friday Harbor grew up around the farm. He raised sheep and dairy cattle and tended an orchard of some three hundred pear and apple trees. In 1966, local resident George Peacock purchased the property and in turn donated it to the Historical Society for use as a museum.
