Russel Barsh: The Salish Sea and North America in 1418

May 9, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

What was happening in the Northwest 600 years ago in the context of political, military, and economic developments elsewhere on the continent?  The treaty ending the 100-years war between the Wabanaki Confederacy and Six Nations; growth of cities along the fringe of the Aztec imperial trade network; and first repercussions of the Little Ice Age on the nature and extent of farming–the evolution of the North American “world system.”

Held at the San Juan Island Library
